Setting Up SMTP Authentication

SMTP Authentication (Outgoing Email)

How Do I Set Up SMTP Authentication in Outlook XP?

Below are directions to set up SMTP Authentication using Microsoft Outlook XP (2002). If you are not sure which version of your software you currently have installed, open it and choose "About..." from the help menu.

  1. Open your email program
  2. Go to the "Tools" menu and choose "Email Accounts..."
  3. Click "View or change existing e-mail accounts" if it is not already selected
  4. Click "Next" The E-mail accounts window will appear
  5. In the window, click your email account once to select it
  6. Click the "Change" button on the right side
  7. Make sure your "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" is set to: smtp.speedfactory.net
  8. In the window, click the "More Settings..." button
  9. Click the "Outgoing Server" tab
  10. Place a check-mark in "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
  11. Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  12. Click "OK"
  13. You will be taken back to the E-mail Settings (POP3) window. Click "Next" and finish the setup.

How Do I Set Up SMTP Authentication in Outlook Express 4, 5, 6 and Outlook 2000?

Below are directions to set up SMTP Authentication in your email program (a.k.a. email clients). If you are not sure which version of your software you currently have installed, open it and choose "About..." from the help menu.

  1. Open your email program
  2. Go to the "Tools" menu and choose "Accounts"
  3. In the Internet Accounts window, click on the "Mail" tab
  4. Click once to select your email account
  5. Click the "Properties" button on the right side of the Internet Accounts window
  6. In the window, click the "Servers" tab
  7. Make sure your "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" is set to: smtp.speedfactory.net
  8. Near the bottom of the Servers tab pane, under "Outgoing Mail Server" place a check-mark in the box labeled "My server requires authentication"
  9. Click the "Settings" button
  10. In the Outgoing Mail Server Window, select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  11. Click "OK"
  12. After clicking OK in the Outgoing Mail Server window, click the "Apply" button. Then click "OK". Then close the "Internet Accounts" window

How Do I Set Up SMTP Authentication in Netscape 6 and above?

Below are directions to set up SMTP Authentication in your email program (a.k.a. email clients). If you are not sure which version of your software you currently have installed, open it and choose "About..." from the help menu.

  1. From your Netscape Inbox window, go to Edit | Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
  2. In the list on the left, click on Outgoing Server (SMTP).
  3. Check "User name and password". Under User Name, enter your account username. Make sure "Use Secure Connection (SSL)" is set to "Never". Hit OK.
  4. Close and restart Netscape.

  1. In Netscape, go to Edit | Preferences.
  2. Click on the plus (+) sign next to Mail and Newsgroups in the list on the left. When the list below Mail and Newsgroups appears, click on Mail Servers.
  3. In the Outgoing mail server user name, enter your account username. Make sure "Use Secure Connection (SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages" is set to "Never". Hit OK.
  4. Close and restart Netscape.

How Do I Set Up SMTP Authentication in Eudora 6.0?

Below are directions to set up SMTP Authentication in your email program (a.k.a. email clients). If you are not sure which version of your software you currently have installed, open it and choose "About..." from the help menu.

  1. Open Eudora, and go to Tools -> Options
  2. Select the 'Sending Mail' icon on the left hand side. Double check that the SMTP server is set to your outgoing mail server (smtp.speedfactory.net). Check the box that is labeled 'Allow Authentication'.

    Note: In order for SMTP authentication to work with Eudora, it is important that the user credentials that are entered for the POP server are set to the Email address for the username. i.e. user1@speedfactory.net instead of just user1.

Below are directions to set up SMTP Authentication in your email program (a.k.a. email clients). If you are not sure which version of your software you currently have installed, open it and choose "About..." from the help menu.

  1. Open the Mozilla mail client, then go to 'Edit'-> 'Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings'
  2. When the dialog box appears, select the 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' option on the left hand side. Ensure that the 'Server Name' text box contains the outgoing mail server for the account in question (smtp.speedfactory.net). Select the checkbox labeled 'Use name and password', and then enter the full email address of the user in the 'User Name' field. Hit 'Ok' to apply the settings.
